15 Questions with Coach Steph
If you’ve been around the Fargo-Moorhead CrossFit scene in the last 10 years, then you’ve probably been beaten in a workout by Coach Steph!
Coach Steph is a CF-L1 with strong knowledge of Olympic Weightlifting. She’s smart, reliable, hardworking, and won’t take your shit - so just do what she says! She’s an amazing athlete, and an even more amazing coach.
Here is a short interview with Coach Steph!
How long have you been doing Crossfit?
October of 2011...so almost 12 years
Why do you coach?
I like being able to help people get better at moving; whether that is with a barbell, on a rower or in a gymnastic movement. It is rewarding for me to see an athlete's perception of their own capabilities change. Being able to be part of those improvements is probably the biggest reason why I coach.
If you could make the ultimate sandwich, what would be on it?
Great sandwich for me starts with a good sourdough bread, mayo, onion, arugula, little lettuce, pickled peppers, red wine vinaigrette, capocollo, ham, salami, cheddar cheese, and tomato.
Describe your coaching style.
Not sure if I have a style? I'm not going to sugar coat things and I will probably push athletes to go outside their comfort zone. I guess I'm direct??
What athletic achievement are you most proud of?
I competed in the American Open in Olympic lifting.
What non athletic achievement are you most proud of?
I don't have anything specific. Any time I am able to create something or fix something I consider that an achievement.
Favorite non-crossfit activities?
Cooking
If you were to describe yourself as a color, what would you be?
Green, no reason, just the first color that popped into my head
If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you want to have?
large book, satellite phone and maybe some snacks so that I have something to eat till I'm done reading and then call to get off the island :)
What is a pet peeve of yours?
chewing noises
How do you take your coffee?
Americano with three shots of espresso, collagen and MCT powder.

Neal Degrasse Tyson
What's the one podcast you'd love to be a guest on?
Small Town Murder....they don't have guests, but I find them entertaining.

What piece of advice would you give to a new athlete?
This doesn't get easier, but being consistent in your efforts pays off in so many ways (i.e. strength, endurance, body awareness, mental toughness). Also, HAVE FUN!!
